Belarusian President Alexander Lukashenko participated in the negotiations with the founder of PMC Wagner Yevgeny Prigozhin, because Lukashenko has known him personally for about 20 years, Russian President Putin's spokesperson Dmitry Peskov said in a conversation with journalists.

According to Peskov, during the conversation with the Belarusian counterpart of the Russian President, an agreement was reached that "Lukashenko will make mediation efforts in the settlement issue."
"And we highly appreciate those efforts," he said.
Peskov called the past day "quite difficult" and "full of tragic events," but stated that the incident will not in any way affect the military operation in Ukraine.
