That statement harms Azerbaijan itself because in the case of such realities, they have not resolved the issue that was the cause of the conflict for decades. Speaker Alen Simonyan of the National Assembly (NA) of Armenia stated this while speaking with reporters at the NA Monday. He noted this commenting on Azerbaijani Foreign minister Jeyhun Bayramov’s statement that additional security measures will not be provided to Armenians of Nagorno-Karabakh, and that they can at most continue to speak their language.

"That is running away from reality, it will not be a solution to the issue, and it is not convenient to them to not discuss these issues. I'm sure they will come to it at some phase. Even now, I believe it is being done to set a high standard before the [peace] talks and after that—as an initial phase of talks...it is being done for those steps," said Simonyan.

To the question whether Azerbaijan will finally agree to the introduction of the Baku-Stepanakert international mechanism, the Armenian parliament speaker responded as follows: "For us, the protection of Armenian rights is the most important matter. That matter cannot simply be forgotten; it is self-deception. If Azerbaijan is ready to engage in self-deception, Armenia is not ready; we will follow up on our statements."

"I don't know if that part will be included in the peace treaty [with Azerbaijan] or will not be included, or if it will be a separate document because concrete guarantees are needed. We have an example that the terms of the November 9[, 2020] [trilateral] statement are not being kept. If that issue is not discussed, if that issue is not resolved, it means [that] at least most of those talks are meaningless," the Armenian NA speaker added.
