The US continues to believe that peace between Armenia and Azerbaijan is within reach, and direct dialogue is the key to resolving the remaining issues. Matthew Miller, Spokesperson of US Department of State, stated this at Monday’s Department press briefing.

Referring to the talks between the Minister of Foreign Affairs of Armenia Ararat Mirzoyan and his Azerbaijani counterpart Jeyhun Bayramov, which will begin in Washington D.C. on Tuesday, Miller emphasized that the American side has a number of items it wants to discuss.

"They’re very sensitive diplomatic discussions that will take place here," said the US State Department spokesperson, stressing that these talks will last until Thursday.

"[US] Secretary [of State Antony] Blinken will meet with the foreign ministers from both Azerbaijan and Armenia. We’ll have more details as the week progresses. We continue to believe that peace is within reach and direct dialogue is the key to resolving the remaining issues and reaching a durable and dignified peace," added Matthew Miller.
