There is progress in the Armenia-Azerbaijan talks, but there is much work to be done to reach a final agreement. This was stated by US Secretary of State Antony Blinken, summing up the results of the new round of meetings between Azerbaijan's and Armenia's foreign ministers Jeyhun Bayramov and Ararat Mirzoyan in Washington D.C.

Blinken thanked his two colleagues and appreciated the difficult work that continues to achieve a long-term peace treaty between Armenia and Azerbaijan, as well as other important issues that can develop relations between the two countries.

Also, he thanked for the progress made towards the overall goal of the agreement, which, as per the US Secretary of State, has resulted in the inclusion of some articles in the agreement, as well as deepening mutual understanding on other important issues, and it was acknowledged that a lot of work still needs to be done to reach a final agreement.

Blinken noted that further meetings are scheduled with them in the EU in a few weeks. He said they have had a number of meetings not only in the US, but also at the hospitality of EU partners, including with the participation of Armenian prime minister and Azerbaijani president, and they know that further meetings are scheduled with them in the EU in a few weeks.

The US Secretary of State said they look forward to continuing this process in the coming weeks to make the most of the momentum they have gained during these meetings to reach further agreements on various parts, with the aim of reaching a final and general agreement in the coming weeks or months.

Blinken said he believes there is also a clear understanding from all sides that the closer they get to reaching an agreement, the more complicated the process becomes in some cases because the most complex issues are left for the end.

The US Secretary of State, however, noted that he is very grateful for the spirit of transparency and sincerity, as that is the only way to reach mutual understanding and agreement.
