French Ambassador to Azerbaijan Anne Boillon was summoned to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs (MFA) of Azerbaijan after French President Emmanuel Macron’s meeting with the Armenian community, Azerbaijani media report.
"The French ambassador to Azerbaijan was asked to explain the recent meeting of President Emmanuel Macron with the representatives of the Dashnaktsutyun Party and the Armenian lobby in France and some words that appeared in the press that the French president said at this meeting.
"The ambassador was informed that the French side should explain the statements made on behalf of Macron. Thus, the representatives of Dashnaktsutyun and the Armenian lobby, making a reference to Macron in the media, noted in their statements, in particular, that immediately after the meeting in Chisinau, the French president called them, said that he was more active in the ‘Karabakh issue’ than [Armenian PM Nikol] Pashinyan, and will further strengthen this activeness.
"In response, Boillon said that she has no information on this issue. It was also noted that the Azerbaijani side is waiting for Paris to confirm or deny the opinions expressed on behalf of Emmanuel Macron. If they are confirmed, Baku could take appropriate steps at the diplomatic level," the statement said.
