The German coalition government is divided over whether to submit to British pressure and approve production of Eurofighter Typhoon fighter jets for Saudi Arabia, Welt Am Sonntag newspaper reports, citing anonymous sources.

A deal signed by Riyadh and BAE Systems weapons maker five years ago to supply 48 such fighter jets has been put on hold by the 2015 war in Yemen, where Arab forces led by Saudi Arabia intervened.

A third of the components for these aircraft come from Germany, industry sources told Reuters at the time.

German Chancellor Olaf Scholz and Finance Minister Christian Lindner are in favor of the export permit, but the Greens and part of the Social Democrats are categorically against the move.
