In the west of Kenya, a truck collided with several cars and drove into the crowd, leaving 49 dead, Minister of Roads and Transport Kipchumba Murkomen announced, AFP reports.

Rescuers are currently working to clear the wreckage, where several more victims are believed to be.

Transport Minister Murkomen noted that more than 30 people were injured when the truck crashed into cars, minibuses, motorcycle taxis and market stalls at the busy Londiani intersection.

The fate of the truck driver is still unknown.
