Brazil's Superior Electoral Court banned former President Jair Bolsonaro from running for political office until 2030 after finding him guilty of abuse of power and misuse of state media during last year's election campaign, CNN reports.
Five of seven judges found the former Brazilian president guilty, completely ending his hope of returning to politics in the upcoming 2026 elections. Two of the judges voted against the decision that will deny Bolsonaro the right to run for public office for eight years.
Bolsonaro denies any wrongdoing. On Friday he told Rádio Itatiaia that he plans to appeal the court's ruling.
