All polls show that more than 90 percent of the population of Armenia is against Artsakh (Nagorno-Karabakh) being a part of Azerbaijan in any capacity. On the contrary, Armenia’s authorities ignore it. Armenia’s former foreign minister Vartan Oskanian told this to reporters Tuesday.
Referring to Armenian Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan's statement that the former authorities of Armenia, based on the Madrid principles, as well as the Key West negotiations, essentially recognized Nagorno-Karabakh as a part of Azerbaijan, Oskanian said: "No former president, authorities of Armenia have never recognized Artsakh as a part of Azerbaijan. No matter what Pashinyan will say, how he will interpret, nothing like that happened. Pashinyan is the first head of Armenia to have said something like this, and now he is trying to formalize it by signing relevant documents. This should not be allowed, we will regret this act for generations."
And regarding the possible ways out of the current situation, Armenia's ex-FM said: "Today there is a major alternative to what Pashinyan is trying to do. Now they are trying to present that the war [in 2020] was inevitable. Not only was it not inevitable, but war was ruled out. Pashinyan brought the war on our people because of his mistakes. Its facts are obvious to all. And now it is said in the same way that there is no alternative to what is being done; which is not the case."
