The delegation led by the speaker of the Republic of Armenia National Assembly (RA NA), Alen Simonyan, being on an official visit in Poland, on Tuesday met with Elzbieta Witek, the Marshal of the Sejm, the lower house of the Polish parliament.

The parties stated that the meetings and discussions planned during the current official visit will contribute to the promotion of bilateral cooperation between the two countries, the NA informs NEWS.am.

Simonyan noted that the Armenian and Polish peoples are connected by centuries-old historical relations, recalling that last year was the 655th anniversary of the formation of the Armenian community in Poland. He expressed his gratitude for the care and attitude shown to Polish Armenians at the state level in Poland.

At the meeting, the importance of parliamentary cooperation in the expansion of bilateral relations was emphasized.

Stressing the opportunities for interaction on various international platforms, Alen Simonyan noted that as a co-creator of the Eastern Partnership of the European Union (EU), Poland plays an active role in strengthening Armenia-EU relations, and Armenia expects Poland's support in the effective implementation of the Armenia-EU Comprehensive and Enhanced Partnership Agreement.

Reflecting on the matter of establishment of stability and security in Armenia’s region, the RA NA speaker details of the situation on the borders of Armenia and in Nagorno-Karabakh as a result of the Azerbaijani military aggression. He attached great importance to the deployment of the EU civilian monitoring mission in Armenia, which is favorable in terms of security, ensuring stability in the region, and building trust on the ground.

"We also know that in the middle of this year, Poland plans to expand the engagement of [its] monitors in the mission, which is very welcome for us," the RA NA speaker emphasized.

Alen Simonyan noted that during various meetings with all international partners, they raise the need to apply sanctions against Azerbaijan and expect targeted reactions.

Elzbieta Witek, for her part, stressed that parliamentary diplomacy ensures uninterrupted communication between parliaments, thanks to which accurate information about countries is obtained. Speaking of democratic values, she emphasized accountability to the people, emphasizing also the positions regarding international partners. In this context, the Marshal of the Polish Sejm expressed her views on further multi-sectoral expansion of cooperation. And commenting on the conflicts taking place in various parts of the world, Witek noted that Poles, regardless of their political views and differences, always unite against aggression and for peace, making their voices heard in this regard.

The RA NA speaker, in turn, expressed hope that the voice of Poland will also be heard when it comes to the development of democracy and establishment of peace in Armenia.

After the meeting, the members of the Armenian delegation toured the Polish parliament building.
