Dutch Prime Minister Mark Rutte announced his resignation and the resignation of members of his cabinet, explaining this move by irreconcilable differences in the four-party coalition over the problem of controlling migration, reports The Associated Press.

This decision means that at the end of this year the country will be facing general elections to the lower house of parliament for 150 seats.

“It is no secret that the coalition partners have very different views on migration policy,” Rutte told reporters in. “And today, unfortunately, we have to draw the conclusion that those differences are irreconcilable. That is why I will immediately … offer the resignation of the entire Cabinet to the king in writing.”

Rutte said he would lead an interim government prior to the election.
