On Saturday, several militants carried out an armed attack on a police station in Zahedan, the capital of Iran's southeastern province of Sistan and Baluchestan, Tasnim reports.

The militants attacked police station No. 16, located south of the Sunni Musalla (prayer hall) of Zahedan.

The attackers were wearing suicide vests, and two of them reportedly blew themselves up.

Shots were heard in the area because, according to some reports, the attackers tried to break into the police station.
The police and security forces surrounded the attackers in an intense exchange of fire.

The Sistan and Baluchestan province borders Pakistan and Afghanistan and has a long coastal border by the Sea of Oman.
