The president of Azerbaijan announced that in the coming days high-level negotiations will be held with Armenia on the peace treaty. Ilham Aliyev added that he hopes for further "convergence of positions," Azerbaijani media reported.

"Our [i.e. Azerbaijan] position regarding peace negotiations is clear, logical, based on international law. I believe that a peace treaty can be signed based on these principles, based on the norms and principles of international law. In any case, I believe that there are such opportunities," said the president of Azerbaijan.

According to him, the last phases of the peace talks and high-level contacts planned in a few days are aimed at "getting even closer to the peace agreement."

"We want this, we are promoting this initiative. However, I say again: not everything depends on us [i.e. Azerbaijan]; the opposite side must also be ready for this and must transfer the principles expressed in words to paper," said Aliyev.

Also, he emphasized the "positive progress in Armenia's position."

"If in October of last year [Armenia] recognized the territorial integrity, sovereignty and borders of Azerbaijan, then in May of this year it went further, officially recognizing the parameters of the territory of Azerbaijan, including Karabakh and enclave villages; this should be considered as a positive fact. Now the time has come to put these same words on paper, put signatures, and establish relations. In any case, we [i.e. Azerbaijan] will continue our efforts in this direction," said the Azerbaijani president.
