At the request of a reporter, the spokesperson of the US Department of State, Matthew Miller, commented—at Wednesday’s Department press briefing—on the following statements that have been heard in the comments of the Department since May: "the peace [between Armenia and Azerbaijan] is within reach,” “agreement [between Armenia and Azerbaijan] is within reach.”

The reporter asked what exactly this means and if there is any specific timeframe in this regard.

Miller did not speak about a timeframe, but said: “ I will say what the—we have meant when we say it’s within reach is that they have made significant progress on a number of issues. Even in the last meeting, they narrowed the number of issues that remain unresolved. And so we think with a dwindling number of issues to resolve, the agreement’s within reach, but that involves—that of course would involve both parties being willing to compromise."

The spokesperson of the US State Department added that no meeting between the foreign ministers of Armenia and Azerbaijan was planned for now.
