The work on the construction of the Margara customs office on Armenia’s border with Turkey has already begun, and modular booths will be built there. The Armenian government made this decision at Thursday's Cabinet meeting.

There are no diplomatic relations between Armenia and Turkey, and their border has been closed since 1993 at the initiative of Turkey.

In the spring of 2023, the territory of Armenia’s Margara village checkpoint was transferred to the management of the State Revenue Committee of Armenia. In late May, the committee signed an agreement with a company regarding the preparation of design and estimate work for the construction of the Margara customs office. The project envisages the construction of a one-story service hall, two booths for cargo registration, two booths for duty shift rest, a one-story customs inspection building, parking lots, platforms, internal roads, two checkpoints, and a one-story warehouse.
