The EU foreign ministers will discuss military assistance and security guarantees to Ukraine, relations with Turkey and China, as well as the Armenian-Azerbaijani settlement during the upcoming meeting in Brussels on Thursday, RIA Novosti reported, citing a high-ranking European source․

“The meeting of the Foreign Affairs Council will begin with a working breakfast with the participation of the UN representative on human rights. Then the main meeting of the Foreign Affairs Council will begin, which will be devoted to three topics: the conflict in Ukraine, the foreign policy aspect of economic security, as well as relations with Turkey,” the source said.

The source also noted that in the afternoon the EU foreign ministers will hold one and a half hour online discussion with US Secretary of State Anthony Blinken to discuss a wide range of issues. It is noted that there is no specific agenda for discussions with Blinken, but it is clear that discussions around the conflict in Ukraine and relations with China will continue, the source added.

He did not rule out that during this meeting the issue of Turkey's ratification of Sweden's NATO membership and the decisions following the results of the July summit of the North Atlantic Alliance, held in Vilnius, could also be raised.

At the end of the meeting, the ministers plan to discuss current issues, including China, the outcome of the July 17-18 summit with the countries of Latin America and the Caribbean, the normalization between Armenia and Azerbaijan, as well as Tunisia.

When discussing economic security, the ministers will hold a discussion on reducing dependence on third countries that "have the potential to use trade and the economy as a weapon."

The source indicated that when discussing Turkey, the foreign ministers intend to discuss the results of the Turkish elections.

“This is generally a good occasion to discuss the situation in our bilateral relations with this country, which is also a candidate for the EU,” the source added.

Answering a question about whether the ministers will touch upon Turkish EU membership, the source indicated that "the relevant report on relations and on the situation, which the European Council had previously requested, will be ready by October."
