On July 22, Armenian Foreign Minister Ararat Mirzoyan received the newly appointed Ambassador of the Islamic Republic of Iran to the Republic of Armenia Mehdi Sobhani in connection with the presentation of copies of his credentials. This was reported to Armenian News-NEWS.am by the Foreign Ministry.

Minister Mirzoyan congratulated Mehdi Sobhani on his appointment, expressing hope that the ambassador will make an important contribution to the further development of relations between the two friendly and neighboring countries. The Ambassador thanked for the warm welcome and expressed his readiness to make every effort to further stimulate relations between the two countries on a historical and civilizational basis, and to implement programs of mutual interest.

During the meeting, a number of issues related to the comprehensive Armenian-Iranian agenda were discussed. The interlocutors acknowledged the dynamically developing Armenian-Iranian political dialogue, emphasizing the importance of high-level mutual visits. The parties touched upon the deepening of bilateral cooperation in the sectors of trade, economy, energy, and transport, as well as the implementation of the planned programs. The interlocutors also exchanged views on regional security issues.

Referring to the recent discussions around the settlement of relations between Armenia and Azerbaijan, Ararat Mirzoyan stressed that the efforts of the Armenian side are aimed at establishing a lasting peace in the South Caucasus, which will be beneficial to all the peoples of the region. The parties stressed the importance of settling the existing problems peacefully and through negotiations.

The Armenian FM presented the humanitarian crisis that arose in [Artsakh] Nagorno-Karabakh as a result of the illegal blocking of the [Berdzor] Lachin Corridor by Azerbaijan, emphasizing the need to immediately lift the blockade.
