A meeting of representatives of Armenia and Azerbaijan will be held in the near future, a Washington official told Azerbaijani Turan agency on the conditions of anonymity.

He stressed Washington is impatiently expecting that representatives of Armenia and Azerbaijan will achieve  progress during peace talks in Paris.

“He did not specify what particular meeting he meant, but we can assume that the meetings of foreign ministers or even presidents may be expected,” the agency writes.

The source said that U.S. fully supports peaceful initiatives introduced by French President in Armenia and Azerbaijan.

According to him, these initiatives were discussed in September in New York by U.S., French and Russian diplomats. The OSCE Minsk Group co-chairing states continue calling on the sides to take joint efforts to reach compromise which can “open door for peace.” The source stressed that elections will be held in all the three co-chairing states next year and now it is the best time to implement new initiatives.

Interestingly, Nicolas Sarkozy made no statements on Karabakh during his trip to Azerbaijan, while being in Armenia he said the sides must resume the dialogue and achieve peace.
