Zhoghovurd newspaper of Armenia writes: A UN Security Council emergency meeting [on the Lachin corridor issue] was held yesterday. After this meeting, it became relevant, and many people are interested in, ultimately, what will happen after this discussion.

Thus, Zhoghovurd daily, after studying the UN Charter, found out that there could be several scenarios.

The Security Council may adopt a statement [on the aforesaid issue]. A resolution is adopted if nine members voted for it at the open meeting. These members shall include the five permanent members. If any of the permanent members is against it, the resolution is not adopted.

The [Security Council] chairperson's statement may be adopted; it must be adopted by consensus.

The other option is the chairperson's writing: the chairperson’s letter or press release.

Let us remind here that on December 20, 2022, an emergency meeting [of the UN Security Council] was held under the chairmanship of India, which was called again based on the petition of Armenia and aimed to discuss the situation created as a result of the blocking of the Lachin corridor [by Azerbaijan]. However, after this discussion, the parties did not come to a consensus, and no statement was adopted. France had adopted the statement and made the proposal, but it was not adopted due to the objection of the Russian side. It is interesting what will happen this time.

Let us add that the Security Council is one of the main bodies of the United Nations, it consists of 15 members, five of which are permanent members representing the US, Russia, Great Britain, France, and China and have the right to veto.
