Minister of Foreign Affairs of Armenia Ararat Mirzoyan on Thursday met with Rosemary DiCarlo, UN Under-Secretary-General for Political and Peacebuilding Affairs, in New York, Armenian News-NEWS.am learns from Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Armenia.
Mirzoyan presented the extremely difficult humanitarian situation in Nagorno-Karabakh, and stressed that the conscientious players of the international system should not allow this situation to turn into a real humanitarian disaster. In this connection, the minister particularly emphasized the special role and preventive function of the UN Security Council as an organization with a mandate in maintaining peace and security.
Reflecting on the difficult conditions created for the vulnerable groups of the 120,000 people in Nagorno-Karabakh, the Armenian FM stressed the urgency of implementing the decisions of the International Court of Justice on February 22 and July 6 and ending the illegal blocking of the Lachin corridor by Azerbaijan.
And in the context of establishing long-term stability in the region, Ararat Mirzoyan emphasized the need for Azerbaijan to abstain from actions and provocations aimed at neutralizing international efforts in that regard and the possibility of achieving peace.
