Luisa Gonzalez, supported by the former president of Ecuador, Rafael Correa, and Daniel Noboa, the son of one of the country's richest businessmen, are likely to face each other in the runoff of the snap presidential elections. Their main competitors have recognized their defeat.

According to data released by Ecuador's National Electoral Council, after counting more than 50 percent of the votes cast, Gonzalez, who represents the left-wing coalition of the Citizens' Revolution, won 33.25 percent of the votes, while Noboa, who was nominated by the center-left National Democratic Movement—24.15 percent.

If this trend continues, presidential runoff elections will be held in Ecuador on October 15, as the favorite of the presidential campaign must receive an absolute majority of the votes or at least 40 percent in the first round, but on the condition that at least 10 percent of the votes separate this candidate from the latter’s closest competitor.
