Specialists at the Scientific Center for Translational Medicine at Sirius University in Russia conducted research on the mRNA vaccine against tuberculosis, which they developed this spring. The results showed that the new medicine is the most effective among those existing in the world today, Gazete.Ru was told at this university.

"Currently, the only approved vaccine for the prevention of tuberculosis is BCG. Its main drawback is that it does not provide full protection against pulmonary tuberculosis in adults. Scientists around the world continue to search for new vaccines against tuberculosis, primarily for adolescents and adults. Within the scope of a grant, our scientific team has set itself the task of developing an effective alternative to the BCG vaccine," said Roman Ivanov, Director of the Scientific Center for Translational Medicine at Sirius University.

Experiments have shown that when rodents are injected with an mRNA vaccine, a more pronounced T-cell response is formed; and it is this that plays a key role in the destruction of the pathogen.

According to the Sirius University scientists, such a vaccine will be effective even if new strains of the pathogen appear.
