The situation in Artsakh (Nagorno-Karabakh) and the respective steps expected by the Artsakh side were discussed during the closed consultation held Monday in the National Assembly of Artsakh.

Artsakh President Arayik Harutyunyan noted that Artsakh is alone, has no supporters, and all issues must be resolved jointly.

Both conditions proposed by Azerbaijan, regarding the Akna (Aghdam) road and a meeting in Yevlakh district, are unacceptable to Artsakh; this point of view was formed during the aforesaid consultation.

According to activist Artur Osipyan, the participants of the meeting reasoned that a meeting in Yevlakh will close the issue of Artsakh and will be considered an internal matter of Azerbaijan. The option of opening the Akna-Stepanakert road was also considered destructive.

"The enemy [i.e. Azerbaijan] has announced that after opening the Aghdam road, the next task will be the disarmament of the [Artsakh] armed forces, and after that the [Azerbaijani] law enforcement agencies shall enter Artsakh. It is clear to all people of Artsakh that this is the destruction of Artsakh," Osipyan said, adding that he proposed a peaceful march to the Hakari bridge.

The question of engaging international peacekeeping forces was raised, too.

"We understand that Russia's influence is great, we are dependent, and there is a point of view that in case of such a proposal, the Russian peacekeepers should leave Artsakh. Now, if according to the government, according to the authorities, there are only a few days left for Artsakh, if nothing is changing, then what do we have to lose?" said Osipyan.

The results of the aforesaid consultation will be announced in the coming days—and in the form of decisions.
