Renata Alt, Chairwoman of the Committee on Human Rights and Humanitarian Aid of the German parliament, the Bundestag, has proposed imposing personal sanctions on those responsible for the ongoing blockade of Nagorno-Karabakh by Azerbaijan.
"The situation in Nagorno-Karabakh is really very worrying, and I am closely following the developments in the region," Alt said in response to the Haypress news agency's inquiry.
The German lawmaker noted that she is holding discussions with decision-makers and NGOs in order to improve the situation, and assured that she will continue to make efforts to protect the human rights of the people of Nagorno-Karabakh.
In her view, the EU can exert effective pressure on Azerbaijan only with concentrated force.
Alt considered it necessary for the European Council and the European Commission to come up with initiatives to "impose personal sanctions on the political architects of the blockade."
