The Russian side, in terms of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, the Ministry of Defense and other relevant departments, is in constant contact with all interested partners and is taking steps to resolve the humanitarian crisis in Nagorno-Karabakh. Maria Zakharova, the official representative of the Russian foreign ministry, stated this at Tuesday’s press briefing, when asked about what the Russian side was doing to end the tension around Nagorno-Karabakh and stop the humanitarian crisis there.

According to her, in particular, Igor Khovaev, the Russian foreign minister’s special representative for assisting the normalization of relations between Armenia and Azerbaijan, touched on this subject during his visit to Armenia last week, and these days he is in Azerbaijan, where his corresponding consultations with Azerbaijani colleagues are planned.

"We [i.e. Russia] are acting in accordance with the 2020-2022 tripartite multifaceted agreements signed by the leaders of Russia, Azerbaijan, and Armenia. We are in favor of humanitarian aid reaching the region unimpeded through the routes of Lachin and Aghdam, and we call to avoid unnecessary politicization of this issue," she said.

"We cannot fail to mention that the European Union in this case, of course, has been like this before as well, shamelessly borrows the initiatives of the Russian side. Moreover, the results of the European Union's actions generally do not lead to the settlement of the situation. The political rhetoric that regularly appears, with some attempts to blame Russia, particularly by Yerevan, all of that is unacceptable because first of all it hits the people who need help, and in fact the question arises: such political statements which are made by a number of quite high-level figures in Yerevan, what is the need for all this rhetoric? To remove one's own responsibility? I don't want to think about it, but many analysts assume to make it difficult to solve the issue.

“It seems to me that everything necessary should be done now in order to improve the situation, to minimize people's suffering. I want to say once again that such statements which we regularly hear, especially in recent days from Yerevan, spoil the work and do not benefit the main task: helping people," Zakharova added.
