French President Emmanuel Macron is likely to visit Armenia this weekend, and with a new statement on the resolution of the Nagorno-Karabakh conflict, according to an Alpha News source.

The visit is scheduled for September 9-10.

It is also reported that after Armenia’s capital Yerevan, Macron is expected to visit Azerbaijani capital Baku.

The French president announced earlier that he was going to hold talks with the leaders of Armenia and Azerbaijan and come up with a new diplomatic initiative regarding the settlement of the Nagorno-Karabakh conflict.

Macron came to Armenia only once—within the framework of the 17th La Francophonie Summit held in Yerevan in October 2018. However, this visit had no significant impact on Armenian-French diplomatic relations.

During his meetings with the French Armenian community after the 44-day war in 2020, Emmanuel Macron has repeatedly stated that he will come to Armenia when there is a change in the Nagorno-Karabakh issue and France has something new to say.
