Azerbaijan believes that they should demand an apology from Armenia.

"If Armenia apologizes for the atrocities committed in the past, peace with Azerbaijan will become possible," Hikmet Hajiyev, assistant to the president of Azerbaijan, said in an interview with Arab News.

According to him, a peace treaty between Armenia and Azerbaijan would change the landscape of South Caucasus, but the ball is in Armenian government’s court.

Taking the opportunity, Hajiyev tried to assure that "the claims that Azerbaijan is closing the only road connecting Armenia with the 120,000 ethnic Armenians living in Karabakh and prohibiting the delivery of food, medicine, and other essential goods are baseless and unproven claims" and that the motorway via Aghdam is more suitable in terms of "reintegration of Armenians."
