YEREVAN. - Third international Arevordi (son of the sun) festival started in Yerevan on Friday.

More than 500 young people dressed in costumes made of waste material started their masquerade-parade from the Yerevan Freedom Square in the framework of the festival. The parade which was leaded by the German Konfusau carnival band went through Yerevan downtown: Freedom Square, Northern Avenue, Republic Square, Nalbandian Street, and Sharl Aznaur Square.

People in different animals’ masks could be seen in the streets with posters calling people to preserve the nature.

Many passersby joined the ‘animal’ and participated in the celebrations which took place on Sharl Aznaur Square.

The participants tried to make costumes of endangered animals, Arevordi environmental festival’s head Ruben Khachatryan informed Armenian News-NEWS.am.

“This parade has turned into a beautiful tradition, and every year more and more children take part from the regions and Yerevan, this is a unique call to every one of us to take care of our environment, our city, and our country, I think the experiment is successful. Who said that environmental problems must always be talked about with protests, it is possible to persuade people with celebrations, to tell them that this is our country, our values and we must view these from different aspect,” Ruben Khachatryan told and added that the movie Green will be shown during the opening ceremony.
