The office of the ombudsperson of Azerbaijan informs about visiting the arrested former Foreign Minister of Nagorno-Karabakh, David Babayan, reports Vesti.az.
The respective statement notes that during this visit on Tuesday, the ombudsperson listened to Babayan on an individual basis, the conditions of his treatment and detention, and examined his rights under the law.
It is reported that Babayan was provided with glasses, and access to library and information. Babayan said there were no complaints regarding the conditions of detention, and noted that he underwent a medical examination upon being admitted to the penitentiary. Also, it is noted that a defense attorney was provided to Babayan.
As part of the aforesaid visit, David Babayan was presented with legislative acts in his native language, as well as brochures explaining the possibility of contacting the ombudsperson, the aforementioned statement notes.
After the Azerbaijani military aggression on September 19-20 in Nagorno-Karabakh, the Azerbaijani law enforcement arrested several former leaders of Nagorno-Karabakh, including three ex-presidents, as well as the former ministers of foreign affairs and defense. In addition, practically the entire Armenian population of Nagorno-Karabakh moved to Armenia in a matter of days, leaving their homes and property behind. According to various estimates, only 15 to 40 Armenians have remained in Nagorno-Karabakh; mostly people who still hope to find their missing relatives.
