YEREVAN. – Armenian FM Edward Nalbandian met on Wednesday the U.S. Deputy Secretary of State William Burns, who is in Armenia within the frameworks of regional visit.
Armenian FM welcomed the guest and stated that mutual high-level visits for the recent years strengthened significantly Armenian-American warm relations.
“I am glad to continue our conversation on international and regional issues started a month ago in New York,” Nalbandian said.
Burns in his turn thanked for the reception and stated that the U.S. praises collaboration with Armenia and intends to develop multi-sided relations, dialogue on international and regional agenda, as well as cooperate in reforms implemented in Armenia.
The sides discussed wide range of bilateral Armenian-American international and regional issues, which are to promote economic collaboration and efforts of Armenian authorities to strengthen democracy. They also touched upon Nagorno-Karabakh conflict settlement issue. Armenian FM stated that Azerbaijani continuous militant challenges contradict to the statements of mediator states and the logic of peaceful process.
On this regard, Burns stated that U.S. always pays attention to ensuring stability in the Southern Caucasus and regulating relations between the states. U.S. official said that the only method of settling the conflict is through peace. As for the establishment of Armenian-Turkish relations, U.S. continues promoting the process.
