Russia discusses fundamental issues concerning Russian peacekeepers with Azerbaijan, official representative of the Russian Foreign Ministry, Maria Zakharova, has said.
"Over the past year, the situation in Karabakh has changed dramatically. At the summit held in Prague under the auspices of the European Union in October 2022, the Prime Minister of Armenia recognized Karabakh as an Azerbaijani territory and reaffirmed his position at the summit held in Brussels in May and July of this year.
Thus, the conditions under which the Russian peacekeeping contingent was deployed in 2020 have been seriously adjusted, and the activities of our peacekeepers will be adapted to these conditions against the background of the mass exodus of the population after the clashes on September 19-20 of this year. A number of permanent and temporary checkpoints of the peacekeeping troops have already been closed. Moscow is discussing with Baku the fundamental issues related to Russian peacekeepers," she said.
