Special representative of the Council of Europe is visiting Armenia, Secretary General of the Council of Europe Marija Pejčinović-Burić said during her speech at the PACE.

According to her, the CoE special representative will draw up a map of the needs of forcibly displaced persons from Nagorno-Karabakh.

“And when we return, we will develop a plan to immediately provide assistance to these people. But, of course, there is also the question of when and how these people should return home, because I think no one wants to be a refugee, no one wants to leave the place where they were born or where their ancestors were born,” the CoE Secretary General emphasized.

According to her, within the framework of the Council of Europe it is necessary to pay attention to this and do everything possible to allow the residents of Nagorno-Karabakh to return to their homeland.

“And, of course, as for Azerbaijan, I hope that in the near future we will be able to send a mission from the Secretariat, which will talk with the Azerbaijani authorities and see how they assess the situation in Azerbaijan. But at the same time, I call on Azerbaijan ... to truly fully implement the European Convention on Human Rights,” she noted, expressing hope that thanks to the efforts made on these fronts, the residents of Nagorno-Karabakh will be able to return home.
