Our message to Azerbaijan is clear: any encroachment on Armenia's territorial integrity will be unacceptable and will have serious consequences for the quality of our relations. This was announced by the European Union (EU) High Representative for Foreign Affairs and Security Policy, Josep Borrell, at the press briefing held after the meeting of the Foreign Affairs Council of the EU, and he added that the Armenia-Azerbaijan relations were also discussed at this talk.

The EU foreign policy chief stressed that Brussels shall be extremely alert to any attempt to destabilize Armenia, both internally and externally.

Borrell noted that they call for the resumption of peace talks between Armenia and Azerbaijan on the basis of the work carried out by the President of the European Council, they consider it necessary to sign a peace treaty between the two countries and are willing to continue their mediation efforts in that regard, and that they have decided to invite the minister of foreign affairs of Armenia to one of their upcoming ministerial meetings,.

The head of European diplomacy said that the strengthening of their cooperation with Armenia, supporting the democratically elected authorities of the country, increasing resistance, ensuring security, and assisting in continued reforms in Armenia were discussed, too.

Josep Borrell added that they have decided to expand their civil monitoring mission in Armenia by expanding this service and the number of patrols in sensitive areas of the country’s border with Azerbaijan, that they will study the possibility of providing support to Armenia within the framework of the European Peace Facility, and options for liberalizing the EU visa regime for Armenia.
