The United Nations Office of Humanitarian Affairs (UNOCHA) said Israeli forces were arresting people moving from northern and central Gaza to the south through the crossing, which Israel calls a “corridor”, Al Jazeera reported.

According to UNOCHA, people are forced through an “unstaffed checkpoint" where they are asked to show identification documents and "undergo what appears to be a facial recognition scan."

Last week, the UN reported an incident where a child had to walk through a checkpoint unaccompanied as the father had been apprehended at so-called corridor.

The UN has voiced concern regarding the necessity of expanding child protection services to provide assistance to children who are without adult companionship.
