YEREVAN. – Armenia’s Police Force solved the murders of journalist Alvard Abrahamyan and her husband.
On September 1, the police had received an anonymous call that there was a body toward the entrance of Voghjaberd village of Kotayk Region, and the police officers that were dispatched to the area found the body of a woman, Police Force Press Service informed Armenian News-NEWS.am.
A criminal case was launched. It became clear, on September 11, that the body was that of journalist Alvard Abrahamyan (born in 1960), who was declared missing.
It was also found out that Abrahamyan’s husband, Yurik Srabyan, 56, was missing since August 31.
As a result of operations, the crime was solved.
Alvard Abrahamyan had working and financial relations with capital Yerevan’s resident, Vagharshak Abajyan, 58. Disagreements had arisen between them and Abrahamyan’s husband had intervened. In order to clarify the matter, Vagharshak Abajyan, his son Hakob, and Yurik Srabyan, on August 31, headed to Ayrivank village of Gegharkunik Region, where the father-and-son Abajyans firstly beat and then strangled Srabyan to death.
And returning to Yerevan, Vagharshak Abajyan also strangled Alvard Abrahamyan to death.
The examination revealed that, by hiding Yurik Srabyan’s body but leaving Alvard Abrahamyan’s body at the scene of the murder, the Abajyans aimed to put the blame of the woman’s murder on her husband.
The Abajyans were detained on Wednesday and arrested on suspicion of murder.
The investigation continues.
