Armenian Foreign Minister Ararat Mirzoyan sees a window of real opportunities for peace with Azerbaijan. The Armenian minister announced this at Wednesday’s joint news conference with his visiting Iranian counterpart, Hossein Amir-Abdollahian.

Mirzoyan emphasized that Armenia has repeatedly demonstrated its determination to conscientiously and constructively participate in the negotiations with Azerbaijan, the goal of which is to normalize relations and establish peace.

"We [i.e. Armenia] have repeatedly declared our loyalty to the process and, in general, to the establishment of stable peace in the region," Mirzoyan stressed.

He noted that the negotiations are going on in several phases, and now work is being done especially on the draft peace agreement.

"A few days ago, we received the next [respective] proposals from Azerbaijan. We will study [them] and respond, we will submit our proposals," Mirzoyan noted.

According to him, many claim that there is a real possibility to complete this peace process.

“And I certainly have to agree with this. There is indeed a chance for peace—despite the difficulties and displacement of the Armenian population of Nagorno-Karabakh, and the aggressive rhetoric [by Azerbaijan]. We see this opportunity and how the [Armenian] government in turn is doing everything to complete the process.

"But sadly, no state can do it unilaterally; Azerbaijan's constructive position is [also] necessary. There is a possibility, but it depends not only on Armenia, and we hope that Azerbaijan [also] will show constructiveness," Mirzoyan said, adding that both positive impulses—the release of Armenian captives—and negative impulses—the aggressive calls and statements, or the wishes to avoid meetings—come from Azerbaijan.

Nevertheless, Mirzoyan expressed hope that Azerbaijan will show a constructive approach and a peace treaty will be signed.
