Greece is closely following the situation in the South Caucasus. Greek Foreign Minister George Gerapetritis, who is on an official visit to Armenia, stated this during Wednesday’s joint news conference with his Armenian colleague, Ararat Mirzoyan.

The Greek FM attached importance to helping those in need due to massive barbaric actions—meaning, the forcible displacement of Armenians from Azerbaijan-occupied Nagorno-Karabakh.

Greece rules out the use of force and aggression, Gerapetritis stressed, adding that Athens supports positive steps, such as the bilateral release of detainees and the continuation of dialogue.

Greece hopes the negotiations will resume in achieving peace, and long-term stable peace in the region and establishment of friendly relations with the neighbors is necessary, added the Greek FM.

Gerapetritis noted that he was informed in detail about Armenia’s Crossroads of Peace initiative by his Armenian counterpart and considers it a realistic project.

Reiterating the importance that Greece attaches to the needs of Armenians forcibly displaced from Nagorno-Karabakh, he noted the readiness to assist Armenia both in humanitarian programs and in peace processes.

George Gerapetritis added that Armenia can count on Greece in every matter.
