We are witnessing growing attempts to undermine the rules-based international order, growing nationalism and human rights violations, Cypriot President Nikos Christodoulides said in his speech at the Parliamentary Assembly of the Council of Europe (PACE).

Also, he pointed to the shocking reality, stressing that there are no “frozen conflicts.”

According to the Cypriot president, prolonged political deadlocks should not be treated with complacency, and the lack of diplomacy and dialogue can lead to cycles of constant violence, with disastrous consequences.

Christodoulides cited several examples of multilateral efforts to promote peace, including the EU-mediated settlement and peace process between Armenia and Azerbaijan.

And remembering the 50th anniversary of the division of Cyprus, he said human rights in Cyprus remain an unfulfilled promise for all Cypriots.

All Cypriots—Greek and Turkish Cypriots, Maronites, Armenians, Latin Americans, deserve the same human rights and fundamental freedoms as all other Europeans, Christodoulides said.
