Opening of the “Zangezur corridor” is primarily an important international factor for medium and long-term stability, said Elchin Agakishiyev, adviser to State Oil Company of the Azerbaijan Republic (SOCAR) president, at the Drilling Caspian conference, APA reports.

According to him, this will ensure economic well-being and create many opportunities for Armenia as well.

"On the other hand, together with Georgia, we may compete for international traffic on a regional scale, increase the volume of common operations in this area, and end conflicts peacefully and stably," Agakishiyev added. 

Also, he noted that there will be economic growth and new jobs.

To note, the matter is about opening a "corridor" through Armenia’s Syunik Province, which Azerbaijan has ambitions for. Formally assuring that this "corridor" does not question Armenia's sovereignty, Azerbaijan actually demands special conditions; first of all, no monitoring of transport through that “corridor.” Armenia has repeatedly stated that it is in favor of unblocking all regional communications, but considers the "corridor logic" unacceptable.
