Maria Zakharova, the official representative of the Russian Ministry of Foreign Affairs (MFA), responded—at a press briefing Wednesday—to the question of how Moscow evaluates Armenia's decision to have the Russian border guards removed from Zvartnots International Airport of Yerevan.

"We [i.e. Russia] have really seen the comments of the Armenian leadership on this topic. As we understand, the corresponding notification has been sent through the departmental line. We have not received anything through diplomatic channels. We assume that all decisions will be made based on the results of interdepartmental studies," Zakharova said.

At the same time, she noted that the aforementioned statement was made by the Armenian side "amid a number of unfriendly steps and statements by Yerevan."

"It is unlikely that such an initiative will meet the security of Armenia and its citizens, especially taking into account the problems that Russian and Armenian border guards have been working on effectively shoulder to shoulder for many years," added the Russian MFA official representative.
