At Tuesday’s National Assembly debates on the ratification of the agreement on the status of the EU civilian monitoring mission in Armenia (EUMA), Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs Mnatsakan Safaryan shed light on the matter as to whether a representative of Turkey can join the EUMA.

Opposition MP Gegham Manukyan drew attention to the fact that, according to the aforesaid agreement, representatives of countries outside the EU also can be members of the EUMA. At the same time, there is no clause on Armenia approving the respective candidates.

"If the EU is given such an opportunity, can there be a monitor as part of the mission, for example, from Turkey or, say, Albania? Can Armenia oversee the number of monitors?" asked Manukyan.

In response, Safaryan announced that the agreement on this matter is reached through political dialogue. This was the case, for example, with the representative of Canada.

In addition, the number of EUMA workers is also discussed, and it is a mandatory point for the parties.
