For 30 years, there have been shootings at the borders, from time to time their intensity increases or decreases, we should not take it tragically. Opposition MP Garnik Danielyan stated this speaking with reporters Tuesday in the National Assembly of Armenia.
According to him, Azerbaijan's objective is to create an atmosphere of panic in Armenia’s society after every shooting.
"In the case of previous shootings, they [i.e. the Azerbaijanis] received an adequate response and forgot about it for several months, until they provoked another provocation; that's their methodology. Suppose the [Armenian] authorities surrender those four villages [in Tavush Province to Azerbaijan]. Will the [Azerbaijani] shooting stop after that? It will be much worse, they will shoot from much more favorable positions. Their goal is to make the surrounding villages unviable," Danielyan added.
The opposition member of the parliament noted that for a long time the Armenian authorities said that they do not negotiate on those four villages.
"But 15 days ago, he [i.e. Armenian PM Nikol Pashinyan] came, stood in the village and said: ‘People, they should be surrendered.’ He said we will give four villages, then we will see what demands Azerbaijan makes. (…). The [natural] gas pipeline also passes through that section," said the opposition legislator.
Also, he noted that if the Armenian authorities say that these are Azerbaijani lands, Azerbaijan says that “if it is so, we can launch an attack at any time, capture the Armenian soldiers standing there.”
"[Border] demarcation has not been done. If it’s not done, who can say whose territory it is? It’s not by saying. I also say it is not like that. Armenia has two reasons for this. One [is] that it entered the USSR, those maps should be taken as a basis. And the other is leaving the USSR. (…). As long as the authorities of Armenia are afraid, Azerbaijan will demand," Garnik Danielyan stated, in particular.
