The EU Special Representative for the Crisis in Georgia and the South Caucasus, Toivo Klaar, commented on the night shelling of Armenian positions by the Azerbaijani military.

"Despite certain allegations about military movements, it is reassuring to know that @EUmARMENIA is able to refute these. It also remains an untapped resource to help defuse misunderstandings and false perceptions and can provide good offices to both Armenia and Azerbaijan," he wrote in his microblog on X.

Earlier, the European Union Mission in Armenia (EUMA) issued a statement, noting that it patrolled the Sotk, Verin Shorzha, Aravus, and Movses areas. The mission said in a statement.

"The situation was reported to be stable and calm," the EUMA statement noted.

This morning, the Armenian Defence Ministry reported that on the night of 5-6 April, units of the Azerbaijani Armed Forces opened fire with variable intensity from small arms of different caliber on the positions of the Armenian Armed Forces in a number of directions of the border zone.

In particular, from 22:25 to 22:50, the fire was opened in the direction of Sotկ village (Gegharkunik region), at 23:15 in the direction of Verin Shorzha village (Gegharkunik region), at 00:15 in the direction of Kut village (Gegharkunik region), at 23: 15-23:20 in the direction of Aravus (Syunik Marz), at 23:05-23:20 in the direction of Chinari village (Tavush Marz), at 00:15-01:20 in the direction of Armenian positions located in the section of Movses village (Tavush Marz).

It is noteworthy that the overwhelming majority of shots fired by the Azerbaijani armed forces during the night were untargeted and indiscriminate.

The Armenian Armed Forces units also noticed active movement of vehicles of the Azerbaijani armed forces from 21:00 to 23:00 in the direction of Ishkhanasar.

Obviously, these actions of the Azerbaijani side had a provocative purpose - to obtain a similar response from the units of the Armed Forces of the Republic of Armenia in order to obtain facts "confirming" the Azerbaijani disinformation of the last period.

The units of the Armed Forces of the Republic of Armenia, having assessed the situation, did not take any actions that would contribute to further aggravation, after which the situation on the border calmed down.
