Speaker of the National Assembly (NA) of Armenia, Alen Simonyan, on Tuesday received German Ambassador Viktor Richter, who is concluding his diplomatic mission in Armenia, the NA informs Armenian News-NEWS.am.

The head of the parliament thanked the ambassador for his efforts in the development of Armenia-Germany and Armenia-EU relations, and emphasized the importance of sustainable development of cooperation.

"The parliamentary multi-layered cooperation between the National Assembly and the Bundestag and the active mutual visits of the MPs, the presence of friendship groups in the parliaments are, without a doubt, evidence of a high-level dialogue between our countries," said the NA speaker.

Ambassador Richter, for his part, lauded the established cooperation between the two countries, and stressed that interparliamentary contacts play a key role in the deepening off relations.

The interlocutors discussed the security situation in the South Caucasus and the process of normalization of Armenia-Azerbaijan relations.

Viktor Richter reaffirmed Germany's commitment to assist in the respective peace talks.

"The ongoing reforms in Armenia and the establishment of peace in the South Caucasus are a political priority," the ambassador noted.

Thoughts were exchanged also on the prospects for the expansion of Armenia-Germany cooperation and current programs. Also, cooperation in the cultural, educational, economic, and energy sectors were underscored.
