YEREVAN. - Armenia’s President Serzh Sargsyan signed a decree on October 8, 2011 on mandatory and alternative military service for 2011. According to that decree the draft must take place in October-November of 2011. All the males who will have turned 18 until the draft day and those who have lost their extension privilege from the mandatory service will be called up to the army.

“For those who try to avoid mandatory or alternative military service the Attorney General Office decided on imprisonment as punishment. Those who present themselves to military service will not be punished.

The Attorney General of Armenia calls to all fugitive young men who escaped the military service to use the given opportunity, to get rid of the status of accused criminals by serving to their nation and country. We also call the parents of the fugitives to support the return of their sons,” reads the statement of the Attorney General Office.
