The Minister of Justice of Armenia, Grigor Minasyan, met with the president of the International Criminal Court (ICC), Tomoko Akane, in The Hague, the Netherlands, the Ministry of Justice of Armenia informs Armenian News-NEWS.am.

Minasyan recalled that on October 3, 2023, Armenia ratified the ICC’s Rome Statute, which entered into force in the country on February 1, 2024. By ratifying it, Armenia reaffirmed its commitment to fight impunity for the most serious crimes that threaten world peace and security. Thus, Armenia recognized the jurisdiction of the ICC retroactively, committing to align its national legislation with the principles of the Rome Statute.

Also, Grigor Minasyan reaffirmed Armenia's commitment to ensure the continuity of the aligning of its national legal framework for the implementation of the Rome Statute, and expressed readiness to develop the capabilities of relevant Armenian law enforcement agencies in the context of the effective implementation of the post-ratification process of the Rome Statute in Armenia.

In conclusion, the minister of justice of Armenia expressed gratitude to the ICC for the opportunity to strengthen cooperation.

In turn, ICC president Tomoko Akane congratulated Armenia on becoming a member of the International Criminal Court, and expressed readiness to assist Armenia in its post-ratification process of the Rome Statute and in some other domains of cooperation.
