The heatwave hitting Southeast Asia has led to a sharp increase in international coffee prices in the second quarter of 2024, reports Nikkei Asia.

Accordingly, the prices of futures of the Robusta variety increased by 18.1 percent in London compared to the end of March. As of June 6, the price reached a record high of $4,394 per ton. Arabica variety futures rose by 20.6 percent in three months.

The situation is explained by the record heat in coffee-growing regions, as the air temperature rose to 48 degrees Celsius in Vietnam, Thailand, and the Philippines.

In late June, Bloomberg also attributed the increase in international coffee prices to global climate problems. In the first six months of 2024, the price of Robusta coffee rose by 40 percent.; this is the result of Vietnam's drought. In early May, the price of Robusta rose to a 45-year high.
