A few weeks before the land elections in Saxony, unidentified gunmen opened fire on the headquarters of German Chancellor Olaf Scholz's SPD party in Dresden, Bild reported. The office of the Social Democrats in Saxony is in the old town of Dresden, the building is located next to the local parliament on the Elbe River.
Police officers found bullet holes in the windows on the third floor as early as the end of June, but it became known only now.
According to the investigation, the damage may have been caused by firearms. However, the bullets themselves have not been found yet.
"The very fact that a political motive for such a crime cannot be ruled out at this point has prompted us to consider taking additional security measures. But one thing is clear: we will not be intimidated under any circumstances," said SPD leader in Saxony Henning Homann.
