The runoff of the snap presidential elections is underway in Iran on Friday.

The results of these elections are expected to be known by Saturday morning, after all the votes have been counted.

Former minister of health, reformer Masoud Pezeshkian, 69, and representative of Iran's leader in the Supreme National Security Council, conservative Saeed Jalili, 58, are vying for the office of President.

In the first round held on June 28, Pezeshkian and Jalili received 44 and 40 percent of the votes, respectively. To win, however, a candidate had to get more than 50 of the votes. The voter turnout was 40 percent, which was the lowest in the 45 years of the Islamic Republic of Iran. And at least 4 percent of the ballots were invalid.
