The reason for the queues of vehicles on the motorway from Georgia to Russia and vice versa on the Upper Lars checkpoint—on the Georgian-Russian border—is the beginning of the tourist season. Vahan Hakobyan, customs attaché of the Armenian embassy in Russia, informed Sputnik Armenia about this.

Earlier, social media users had reported that there are queues of vehicles stretching several kilometers towards the border between Georgia and Russia.

"There are queues, and the reason for this is the beginning of the tourist season. The flow of private and passenger cars has increased considerably, which has led to some traffic jam. I cannot say the number of trucks in the traffic jam, as most of the trucks on the road have left the border of Armenia one to three days ago, and most of them are still on the road," said Hakobyan.

At present, the aforesaid motorway is the only land route connecting Armenia and Russia.
